Lent 2019: Where To Find Fish Frys Across Rhode Island

The Lenten season began on Wednesday, meaning that Catholics are forbidden from eating meat every Friday until Easter. Across the state, parishes are holding fish fry events to bring the community together and provide a meat-free dinner option.

The following parishes have fish fry events scheduled.

Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, 141 State St., Bristol

  • March 8 and 29, from 4:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.
  • Baked or fried cod with fries and coleslaw for $10.

St. Christopher's Church, 1554 Main Rd., Tiverton

  • All Fridays during Lent except Good Friday, from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.
  • Fish an chips, chowder, clam cakes, fried clams and fried scallops will be available.

Holy Ghost Church, 316 Judson St., Tiverton

  • All Fridays during Lent except Good Friday, from 12 p.m. until 7 p.m.
  • Fried or baked fish is available, with grape nut pudding for dessert.

St. Barnabus Church, 1697 East Rd., Portsmouth

  • March 22 and 19, April 5 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
  • Tickets are $12 for adults, $5 for children under 12 and kids under five are free. Tickets must be purchased in advance at St. Barnabus or St. Anthony church offices or the Portsmouth Senior Center
