BOSTON │Boston Women in Media and Entertainment is pleased to announce a collaboration with radio legend Candy O’Terry’s “The Story Behind Her Success” podcast series. A unique and memorable luncheon celebrating the accomplishments of five Boston-area women featured this season on the weekly series will be held on October 19 at Granite Links Golf Club in Quincy. Hosted by television icon Liz Brunner, the inspiring event will feature interviews between O’Terry and these five women. Tickets, sponsorships and more information are available at www.BWME.org/TheStoryBehind

An award-winning producer for ESPN, Lisa Fenn was always on the hunt for a great sports story. One day, her father sent her a news clipping about two high school wrestlers from her hometown of Cleveland, Ohio that really got her attention. Leroy was blind and Dartanyan had no legs. The blind athlete carried the boy with no legs on his back…and the boy with no legs became his eyes to the world. When Lisa and her production team touched down in Cleveland, they had no idea that the story they would air on ESPN would move viewers to tears and result in thousands of dollars worth of donations. Lisa’s book, “Carry On: A Story of Resilience, Redemption and an Unlikely Family,” chronicles the friendship of Lisa, Dartanyan, Leroy and the life-changing power of love. The book is being developed into a movie.

“Shining a light on women doing great things with their lives is my greatest joy, and podcasting enables me to bring these stories to the world,” said O’Terry. “This luncheon will be like no other in Boston: inspiring, entertaining, joyful and tearful. Success is a very personal thing. For some, it is the creation of a company or the stewarding of a dream. For others, it is living another day.”

The afternoon will also feature O’Terry’s “16 Life Lessons,” a collection of inspiring photographs and mantras for women of all ages, a three-course lunch, raffle prizes and gift bags.

About Boston Women in Media and Entertainment

In the summer of 2012, O’Terry and media strategist Dayla Arabella Santurri formed BWME. The mission of the organization, to educate, connect and inspire women working in these fields, has been delivered through more than a dozen events and programs each year since its inception. The critically acclaimed “Story Behind Her Success” series — a live interview series and weekly podcast created and hosted by O’Terry — BWME’s “Road Trip” series, professional development scholarship fund BWME Cares, and partnerships with Innovation Women’s Speakers Bureau and the Boston College Club helped grow the organization’s membership to over 250 members within the first two years. Now as BWME enters its sixth year, the organization has refocused its mission, hired a new managing director, Valerie McSorley, and launched two new programs: an Elite Mentor Network and the series Wisdom Workshops.

“With five years behind us and with the feedback of hundreds of members who have come through our door, we’ve learned a great deal of what women in our field need to stack the deck in their favor,” said Santurri. “Access to the top professionals and decision-makers in our industry is vital to get where you want to go. Our new Elite Mentor Network and Wisdom Workshops will do just that,” added O’Terry.

With a board of directors that consists of Brunner, WICN-FM general manager and acclaimed vocalist Amanda Carr, legendary Arts and Entertainment critic Joyce Kulhawik, Nickerson PR CEO Lisa Nickerson, and entertainment attorney Sally Gaglini, BWME is poised for its next chapter.

BWME memberships are open to women employed in all aspects of media and entertainment. Membership applications are reviewed and approved by its board of directors and can be found at http://bwme.org/join/member-benefits.
