Lower Thames To Close Wednesday Night

NEWPORT, RI — Starting at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Thames Street will be closed to traffic from Memorial Boulevard to Young Street. National Grid Gas will be working on the gas main on lower Thames Street.

A Newport Police Officer will be on detail to allow access to residents and businesses between Memorial and Young Street. All other motorists will use Bellevue Avenue and can access lower Thames Street via Howard.

The roadway will be fully open by Thursday morning's commute.
