Man Allegedly Stole Rent Money and Then Took Cab to Hartford

NEWPORT, RI — An officer on patrol spotted Emmanuel Hernandez on Monday around 5:15 p.m. and picked him up.

Hernandez, 20, of Newport, was wanted for allegedly stealing $440.

According to police, on Sept. 30, he had been asked to take the cash to a store and buy a money order to be used to pay the rent. However, he did not return with the money order. Instead, he took a cab to Hartford, Conn.

Detectives spoke with him on the telephone. A warrant was issued for his arrest.
