Man Smashes Door after Argument

Police charged Soane Malia Lui, 42, of 13 Rhode Island Ave., Newport, with domestic vandalism Tuesday night after he allegedly smashed the front door to a woman’s apartment.

Police were dispatched for a report of a disturbance at around 11 p.m. The woman said Lui was intoxicated and she didn’t feel comfortable with him inside the apartment due to his state.

At one point, police said the woman opened the door, tossed Lui’s cell phone outside and closed the door. Lui then rammed the door and shattered it.

Lui reportedly took out a good sized chunk of the door and completely knocked out the deadbolt.

Nothing was disturbed in the residence and nobody was hurt.

He was held overnight for arraignment.
