Middletown Man Charged with Felony Breaking and Entering
He reportedly texted to the victim that he was at the apartment and did a line of coke but left without stealing anything.
Newport police charged a 21-year-old Middletown man with felony breaking and entering early Friday morning for an alleged crime that he committed in late May.
Police said Taiwo Taofik Adebimpe, 21, of 43 Jean St., is believed to have stolen items from a Spring Street apartment.
The missing items were reported on May 21. The two victims said their PlayStation 4, PSP Vita, a guitar and scores of video games were stolen along with two glass bongs and a wallet containing $200 cash. A white iPhone 5 was also stolen.

The break-in occurred sometime between 1 a.m. and 5:45 a.m. that morning, police said, and Adebimpe became a suspect after he allegedly admitted to being in the apartment that night.
Police said a text message exchange between Adebimpe went as follows:

The victim asked about the missing property.
Adebimpe: I rolled through to see if [a person] was there cuz I saw him at the bar cane thu lights were off did a couple lines and left
Adebimpe: I’ve slept at your spot while, no one was home and your stuff was still there am I lying
Victim: Well its gone now guy and you were there. Don’t worry cops are involved now.
Adebimpe: OK.
Police said they checked with Fall River Pawn Brokers to see if the missing items ended up there, but they didn’t.
Police contacted Adebimpe by telephone on June 7 and he refused to come in for an interview but “readily admitted that he was at [the victims’] apartment without me mentioning why I was calling.”
Police got a warrant based on the evidence they collected during their investigation and he was taken into custody on Friday morning after he appeared in Newport County District court on an unrelated charge and was ordered held.
Adebimpe is due to be arraigned at a later date.
