Most Misspelled Word In RI: Liar

NEWPORT, RI — The literary critic Harold Bloom wrote A Map of Misreading. Now Google has come up with a Map of Misspelling. Turns out every state has a little mental block when it comes to spelling particular words. The search engine used its powers to correlate the states with the words most frequently searched. In Alabama, Maine, and Washington state, the natives have trouble with 'pneumonia.' (They apparently don't play the operator game ( W as in 'wrong'; E as in 'eye'; P as in 'pneumonia'; T as in 'tsar,' and so on).

In Louisiana, April would lament to hear everyone trips over 'giraffe.'

And in Rhode Island, the most-misspelled word is 'liar.' Given the state of political corruption here, it's hard not to read in something Freudian. Only four letters, too.

Of all the 50 states, only Georgia flubbed a word with so few letters. They can't spell 'gray.' That's a tricky one because it could be 'grey' versus 'gray.' Wisconsinites probably aren't feeling too superior, though. Their most mis-spelled word is 'Wisconsin.' The word 'beautiful' stumped people in the most states with misspellings for California, Ohio, Kentucky, New York and Minnesota.
