New Newport Officer Sworn In, Four Promoted
The promotions and swearing-in ceremony was held last week.

Three veteran Newport police officers received promotions and a new officer was sworn in at a ceremony at the Community College of Rhode Island’s Newport Campus last week.
The new officer, Michael J. Sherman, graduated in May from the Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy.

Sgt. Michael S. Naylor, to the rank of Lieutenant. Naylor has served the department for 21 years.
Community Police Officer April M. Amaral, to the rank of sergeant. She has served the department for 17 years.

Det. Maurice D. Sellers, a 13 year veteran, to the rank of sergeant.
