Newport Police are still looking for the pit bull.

A boy playing outside of the Park Holm housing complex on Tuesday afternoon was attacked by a pit bull and suffered 100 puncture wounds before the dog was fought off with a pipe, police say, and the dog remains on the loose.

Newport Police Lt. William Fitzgerald said Zita Saunders, of Fall River., Mass., was cited for not restraining her dog which allegedly attacked the boy at around 4 p.m.

The dog reportedly got outside of an apartment and began biting the child. A parent was able to fight off the dog with a pipe before the dog ran off.
