Newport Celebrity Watch: Pierre Cardin to Host Fashion Show at The Breakers

A fashion retrospective, with Cardin designs from the 1950s through his 2016 spring/summer collection, also will be displayed at Rosecliff.

NEWPORT, RI—Pierre Cardin will make a working trip to Newport this summer. The Italian-born French fashion designer will host a fashion runway show at The Breakers in June. The show will introduce an exhibit of his designs from the 1950s through his 2016 spring/summer collection. The exhibit will be at Rosecliff through the end of 2017.

'Pierre Cardin: 70 Years of Innovation' will open in the exhibition gallery at Rosecliff on May 27. It features 42 original pieces from Mr. Cardin's private archives. Expect to see some of his most famous designs, including 1960s space-age looks from the Cosmocorps collection, unisex jumpsuits created for the 1972 Olympics, and the thermo-formed fabric Cardine dress, worn by Lauren Bacall in 1968.

Cardin will turn 95 on July 2. Following the runway show at The Breakers, guests will be invited to a champagne reception, including a birthday cake to celebrate on The Breakers loggia.
