Newport Gulls Finish Summer as Nation's No. 1 Team

The Gulls finished first in Perfect Game USA's Top 50 2012 Summer Collegiate Team Rankings.

The Newport Gulls were announced today as finishing first in Perfect Game USA’s Top 50 2012 Summer Collegiate Team Rankings, adding another accolade to the franchise’s record-breaking championship season.

The Gulls – which twice held the No. 1 spot on Perfect Game’s weekly ranking this summer – have never before finished a season as the top-ranked summer collegiate baseball program in the country, though are no strangers to being listed high on Perfect Game’s charts over the years. In being ranked the best overall team in the final rankings, the Newport Gulls surpassed every other summer collegiate team in the nation – including the teams of the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League.

The Gulls, which won a New England Collegiate Baseball League-record fifth Fay Vincent, Sr. Cup this summer, finished the year at 37-11 overall, a franchise-best record, including going 6-1 in postseason play.
