Newport Gulls to face Danbury Westerners for NECBL Championship

The Newport Gulls will face the Danbury Westerners in the 2012 New England Collegiate Baseball League Championship Series, which will begin with Game One at Cardines Field in Newport on Thursday, August 9. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.

Newport, making their eighth NECBL Championship Series appearance and first since 2009, will then hit the road for Game Two at Rogers Park in Danbury on Friday, August 10. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Game Three, if necessary, will take place at Cardines Field on Saturday, August 11.

Newport, who swept the New Bedford Bay Sox to advance in the NECBL Playoffs, will send their ace Daniel Wright (6-0, 3.94 ERA) to the mound for Game One. Wright, a junior from Arkansas State, went seven innings to pick up the win in Game One of the Gulls first-round playoff series against the Sanford Mainers on August 3.

Danbury, who upset the top-seeded Keene Swamp Bats in the Western Division Championship Series, will counter with right-hander Brett Houseal (6-1, 3.25 ERA).
