Newport Hosting Community Policing Workshop For City Parks

Town officials said the report covers a range of topics, including park rules and regulations, police engagement, lighting and much more.

NEWPORT, RI — The Newport Tree and Open Space Commission will host a public workshop from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., Feb. 8, to discuss community policing efforts in the city's public parks.

The workshop will be held in the friends room at the Newport Public Library. It will follow up on a recommendation in a 2022 park safety report that the commission submitted to the Newport City Council following months of research and public meetings.

Town officials said the report covers a range of topics, including park rules and regulations, police engagement, lighting and much more. The workshop will focus on the role of community policing in fostering park safety and enjoyment.
