Newport Hosting Drive-Through Halloween Celebration

NEWPORT, RI — The city of Newport is holding a socially-distanced Halloween celebration at Easton's Beach to help residents enjoy the holiday while staying safe in the coroanvirus pandemic. The drive-through "spooktacular" will give kids the chance to trick-or-treat from vendors and community organizations.

The event will be held on Halloween and requires preregistration, which can be completed online. Participation costs $5 per child, ages 2 and up.

The family-friendly event will start at the center parking lot of the beach, continuing to the east lot. All participants will stay in their vehicles for the entirety of the event, and everyone will be required to wear a mask.

The city's recreation department is looking for community groups, organizations or individuals to donate jack-o-lanterns to help decorate the event. Anyone interested in participating can drop off their jack-o-lantern at the beach from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. from Oct. 28 to 30.
