
An installation ceremony was held on September 22ndat The Mainstay Hotel and Convention Center for incoming officers of the Newport Lions Club. Jamie Russell was sworn in as the club president for 2016-2017. Russell has been an active member of the Newport Lions Club for the past 4 years. Her sons Tyler and Hayden are Newport Lion Cubs.
District Governor Robert Andrade also swore in Tara D’Angelo to serve as the new club secretary and Helen Steeves as the club treasurer. The club’s 1st, 2nd and 3rd vice-presidents are Patricia Morrissette, Gail Siletchnik, and Dr. Martin Cohen.
New Board of Directors include: Dr. Elie Cohen, Gail Siletchnik, Dr. Martin Cohen, Paul Tobak, Elizabeth Cohen and Alice Coffey. John Pimentel is the new Membership Chairman.

Since the club’s chartering in 1923, its members have worked on a variety of projects in the local community, such as annual eye screening in Aquidneck Island schools, scholarships and supplying eyeglasses to needy citizens. Proceeds from past fundraising events have gone to the FIDELCO Guide Dog Foundation, US Naval Sea Cadets, Operation Stand Down RI and the RI Lions Children’s Cancer Fund to name just a few.
The Newport Lions Club has 30 adult members and 4 Lion Cubs and meets on the last Thursday of each month at 6:00 pm at The Mainstay Hotel and Conference Center. Lions clubs are a group of men and women who identify needs within the community and work together to fulfill those needs.
