Newport Man Arrested Sunday for Domestic Assault Was on Probation, AG's Office Confirms

Timothy J. Lockhart was arrested Sunday night after he initially claimed his girlfriend stabbed his hands.

NEWPORT, RI — The man arrested Sunday after a fight with his girlfriend was on probation for stabbing and beating a man at Festival Field Apartments almost a year ago.

Timothy J. Lockhart, 33, of Newport, pleaded no contest on Sept. 22 and accepted a plea deal, according to Amy Kempe, spokeswoman in Atty. Gen. Peter Kilmartin's office.

"The defendant pleaded nolo contendere on September 22, 2016 and received three years probation and ordered to have no contact with the victim," she said.

The victim could not be found and did not testify.

"Despite several attempts to reach the victim, he could not be located," Kempe said.

Lockhart, she went on to say, "was recently arrested on a domestic simple assault and presented as a probation violator on Monday." He is currently being held without bail on that violation, she said.
