Newport Man Charged With Assault at 7-Eleven
Suspect thought another man might have stolen his wallet the night before, police said.
NEWPORT, RI — Stephen V. Gordon, 49, of Newport, was arrested Tuesday at 1:50 a.m. He was charged with Simple Assault or Battery after he allegedly punched another man in the face outside the 7-Eleven store at 95 Broadway. According to the arrest report, Gordon told officers he was angry because he suspected the man's friend had stolen his wallet the night before. The victim flagged down police and provided a description of Gordon who was stopped by officers as he was walking South on Mann Street.
