Newport Man Charged for Domestic Assault
Police said the man got into an argument with a woman during a party and allegedly hit her with a glass in the chest.
Newport Police charged George Alfred Ogarro, 37, of 5 Carey St., Newport, with domestic simple assault and domestic disorderly conduct early Thursday morning.

Police said they were dispatched to 20 Ranger Road for a report of a fight between a man and woman at around 1:13 a.m.

The mother of the victim told police that the argument began at the party but spilled out into the street.
Police said Ogarro was arrested after an investigation that included several witness interviews. Police also reported finding the broken glass on the ground.

Ogarro was taken into custody without incident held overnight for arraignment Thursday.
He was released on personal recognizance after his initial appearance in Second Division District Court.
He is due to return to court on Aug. 5 for a pretrial conference.
