Newport Man Charged with Stealing Candy from Wal-Mart

The suspect is accused of taking two Oreo candy bars, two Reese's cup sleeves and one pack of Milky Way candy bars,

NEWPORT, RI — Wal-Mart called police on Wednesday shortly after 6 p.m. to press charges against a Newport man.

Ryan Mulligan, 33, is accused of taking candy without paying. According to the store's loss prevention expert, Mulligan paid for a gallon of milk and a box of cereal but was leaving without paying for some candy.

Police allege he took a pack of Milky Way candy bars and some other candy.

The store said he has been involved in a separate incident on Dec. 20 and asked for a no trespassing order to be issued.

Police issued the no trespass order. Mulligan was charged on Jan. 26 at 6:20 p.m. with shoplifting and being a habitual offender. He was also wanted on Superior Court bench warrant, police said.
