Newport Officer Charged with Making Crank 911 Call on Halloween
The veteran officer was arraigned Thursday on a misdemeanor charge of providing false information.

A veteran Newport police officer allegedly placed a false 911 call on Halloween while he was off duty and has been suspended with pay pending an internal investigation.
Sgt. Adam T. Conheeny, 42, was arraigned in Second Division District Court Thursday morning and pleaded innocent to one count of providing false information to 911. He was released on $1,000 personal recognizance and is due to return to court on Dec. 10 for a pretrial conference.
Police did not reveal any information about what Conheeny allegedly said during the 911 call.

Police said Conheeny has been relieved of duty and the department is conducting an internal review of the matter.
