Warming Shelters Open In Newport Amid Freezing Temperatures
Warming shelters will be open to the public both during the day and overnight while temperatures remain below 20 degrees.
NEWPORT, RI — When temperatures drop to 20 degrees or lower, the City of Newport opens warming shelters to ensure all residents can stay safe. With a frigid forecast for the next few days, centers will be open both during the day and overnight.
Overnight shelter is available at the Seamen's Church Institute of Newport from 4 p.m. until 7 a.m. on Thursday and Friday nights.
During the day, warming centers will be open throughout the city at the following locations. More information is available on the city's website.

- Monday to Friday: 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
- Newport Public Library
- 300 Spring Street
- Monday: 12:30 - 8:30 p.m.
- Tuesday to Thursday: 9:30 a.m. - 8:30 p.m.
- Friday and Saturday: 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
- Sunday: 1 - 5 p.m.
- Newport Housing Authority
- Closed following Newport School schedule (weekends, holidays, etc.)
- The Florence Gray Community Center Main Lobby
