Newport Opera House Cross Beams to Be Installed Wednesday
The next phase of the construction happens Dec. 7 when the cross beams supporting the roof garden are installed.

NEWPORT, RI—Tomorrow's construction job at the Newport Opera House Theater and Performing Arts Center is expected to draw another audience eager to watch 8 1/2 ton steel beams moved into position.
Weather permitting, work on the steel structural cross beams starts Wednesday at 6 a.m., and the beams are expected to be installed around 10 a.m.
These beams will support the 4th floor rooftop and atrium courtyard construction, which is part of the historic theater's renovation.

"The steel beams are 55 feet long and 44 inches tall," the Opera House said. "They will be placed on the four steel columns erected two weeks ago. Several 12" steel joists will also be placed between the two large beams."
Spectators are asked to stay on the opposite side of the square across from the Opera House entrance, due to safety considerations.
