Newport Pell Bridge Traffic Tough For Now: Might Be Relief Coming
The state now says it can avoid lane closures during the rush hour until after the Memorial Day weekend.
NEWPORT, RI — Traffic was challenging on the Newport Pell Bridge on Wednesday after the new construction project started. Newport police sent out a tweet advising motorists to avoid the bridge, if possible. Thursday morning, the state Turnpike and Bridge Authority apologized for the inconvenience. The good news, RITBA said, is the lane closures will not impact the morning or afternoon rush hour until after the Memorial Day weekend. Then the single lane closure starts in each direction.
