Newport Police Department Launches Free Summer Camp
The free, week-long program will feature crafts, sailing, tours of Fort Adams and a cruise on the tall ship Oliver Hazard Perry.
NEWPORT, RI — The Newport Police Department has an exciting new opportunity for local kids. For one week in August, Newporters aged 10 through 14 can spend a week at Fort Adams State Park with Newport police, environmental police, parks and recreation staff and more for free.
The summer camp will be based at Fort Adams State Park, where campers will have the chance to tour the fort, go sailing, interact with marine biologists, make crafts and more. To cap off the week, campers will go for a cruise and have lunch on Rhode Island's official tall ship, the SSV Oliver Hazard Perry.
The camp is made possible through a collaboration between the Newport Police Department, environmental police, Rhode Island Parks and Recreation and the Fort Adams Trust.
