Newport Police Log: Newport Man Allegedly Stole Open Car Window, 3 Arrested in 7-Eleven Fight
The following arrest information was supplied by the Newport Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.
George K. Reddick, 56, of 15 Meeting Street, Newport, was arrested around 5:46 a.m. Thursday, July 14, on charges of larceny from a motor vehicle and shoplifting.
Police were dispatched to Bull Street for a report of a man being detained for breaking into cars. When they arrived, Reddick was sitting on the ground. He told officers he stole change and markers from the car. According to reports, Reddick said, “I couldn't help it. The windows were open and the change was calling my name.”
Police also found the ignition key on Reddick, who said he didn't steal the car because he couldn't drive a stick shift.

A witness said he followed Reddick and saw him reach into the open window.
During a search, officers found a CVS bag on Reddick with a receipt for only one item. Reddick admitted to stealing a watch and chocolates from CVS. He also had a small nail on him, which he said was to puncture tires.

Three Men Arrested for Fighting Outside Convenience Store
Jeremiah B. Woodenlegs, 35, of 90 Girard Ave., Newport, Troy Donahue, 45, of 60 Warner St., Newport, and William M. Lee, 53, of 969 W. Main Road, Middletown, were arrested around 10:12 a.m. Wednesday, July 13. Woodenlegs and Lee were arrested for disorderly conduct. Donahue was arrested for disorderly conduct and weapons possession.
Officers responded to 7-Eleven for three people fighting. When they arrived, the three men were punching each other.
According to reports, witnesses said Lee was in the middle of the fight and was pushing Woodenlegs while holding a cane. The witness said Lee had hit him with the cane.
During a search, officers found a knife on Donahue.
Other Arrests
- Leo Morris, 53, of 208 Prairie Ave., Providence, was arrested around 9:02 a.m. Wednesday for an active warrant.
- A 17-year-old Cranston resident was arrested around 7:06 p.m. Wednesday for a weapons possession charge. Police were dispatched to Park Holm for a report of a man possibly in possession of a gun. Officers located the man, who told police he had thrown the gun on the ground next to a tree. They located the gun, which was loaded, and also found a knife on the suspect.
- Sean F. Kelly, 41, of 249 Connell Highway, Newport, was arrested around 2 a.m. Thursday for violating a no-contact order. Police pulled Kelly over and the woman whom he had a protective order against was sitting in the passenger seat.
- Herbi S. Jeik, 45, of 237 Rogers Lane, Middletown, was arrested around 8:42 a.m. Wednesday for disorderly conduct. Police were dispatched to Queen Anne Square for a report of a man acting disorderly. According to reports, witnesses said Jeik was ringing their doorbell and tried to get one of them to come outside. He allegedly walked away yelling. When police arrived, he was holding a brick, which Jeik allegedly said he was going to use to kill someone.
