Reginald Payton, Jr., 27, of Jewett City, Conn., was stopped at 11 a.m. in the Walmart parking lot off Connell Highway. He was charged with felony drug possession. Police allege he was carrying seven grams of cocaine. An informant told police Payton planned to sell crack in the parking lot.

Jill A. Berk, 40, of Newport, was stopped at William and Spring streets at 5:23 p.m. after she allegedly rear-ended a vehicle and fled. She was charged with Driving under the Influence, Leaving the scene of an accident, and Refusal to submit to a chemical test.

Aug. 7

[Name Withheld], 30, of Newport, was charged at a home on Cliff Avenue at 1:10 p.m. with Domestic Simple Assault or Battery and Domestic Disorderly Conduct.
