NEWPORT, RI—Here are recent arrests and citations. Information comes from the police log. The period covered is Sept. 3 & Sept. 4.

Sept. 3

Derrick Echols, 49, of Roxbury, Mass., was charged with two felony counts of Minor/Manufacturing/Transporting/Selling Schedule I and II drugs. He was arrested at 7:45 p.m. at the Shell by the rotary. Echols told police he has a medical marijuana card from Massachusetts and maintained his passenger had no knowledge he had drugs in the car. Police said they smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle and also allege they found 1/4 pound of marijuana and a white rock, believed to be crack cocaine, inside the car.

Sept. 4

Christopher Bennett, 22, of Natick, Mass., was given a summons at 1:04 a.m. near Thames and Pelham streets. He was drinking a Budweiser beer outside, police allege, and was cited for drinking in public.

David A. Couture, 27, of Dracut, Mass., was given a summons at 1:01 a.m. near Thames and Pelham streets. Police allege a doorman at the bar told him not to leave with a drink in hand, but he ignored the warning. He was cited for open container/drinking in public.

Patrick M. Walker, of Newport, was stopped at 2:10 a.m. at Spring and South Baptist streets. He was cited for Driving after his license was denied, suspended or revoked.
