Newport Police Log: Two-On-One Fight Leads to Arrest

The following information was provided by the Newport Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

Andi Hoxha, 21, of 548 Thames St., Newport, and Brendan J. Deasy, 20, of 548 Thames St., Newport, were arrested around 3 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24. Hoxa was charged with simple assault and Deasy was charged with simple assault and vandalism.

Reports said police were dispatched to Berkeley Avenue for a fight. When police arrived, there was reportedly blood on the porch and a broken window.

The victim answered the door and his face was bleeding. He told police he had been at a party with Hoxha and Deasy when he accidentally broke a window. He reportedly left the house and went home.

Reports said the victim’s roommate came home and told him someone had broken a window downstairs and that Deasy and Hoxha were waiting for him. When he went down to meet them, they reportedly attacked him.

The woman who reported the fight said it looked like a two-against-one fight.

Deasy admitted to throwing a rock at the window and hitting the victim. Hoxha reportedly denied involvement. When police questioned a fresh cut on his hand, he said he punched a wall earlier.

Man Arrested for DUI Charge

John A. Scorcia, III, 21, of 20 Annandale Rd., Newport, was arrested around 2:42 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, for a first-offense DUI.

Police responded to a Thames Street residence for a report of a disorderly group. When they saw Scorcia trying to leave with an open beer, they told him to leave it and not drive.

A few minutes later, police reportedly saw him driving on Spring Street. When he rolled through a stop sign, police pulled him over. Scorcia failed the field sobriety test. 

Other Arrests

  • Andre T. Dupree, 21, of 117 Lake Erie, Middletown, was arrested around 12:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, for a weapons charge. Police stopped a car on Ridge Road Thursday night with Dupree in the passenger seat. He reportedly had a 3 ½ inch knife on him.
  • Christopher L. Anderson, 24, of 18 Rosa Terrace, Newport, was arrested around 8:20 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, for an active warrant for failure to appear for a payment review.
