Newport Police Raise $8,700 Selling 'All Cancer' Patch
Newport police officers are allowed to grow beards from October to March, as they raise money for local and cancer nonprofits.

NEWPORT, RI — Newport police on Tuesday said they have raised more than $8,700 for cancer research of all kinds by selling "All Cancer" patches and through the department's "No Shave" charity event."
In Newport, police officers are allowed to grow beards from October to March, as they raise money for local nonprofits.
The patches are $14 and are available on the police department's online store. Proceeds from this patch and 100 percent of the donations received will go to local nonprofit charities as well as local cancer charities.

"We are so close to reaching our goal of $10,000 dollars but still need your help!" a Newport police police spokesman said.
Police said last year, the officers donated and raised more than $10,000 that went to various charities. This included The Gloria Gemma Foundation, Pink Heals Rhode Island, Newport Little League, Island Youth Lacrosse, Operation Stand Down, Home Base, No Shave November and Special Olympics RI, amongst others.
