Newport Police Say Watch Out For Scammers Posing As City Officers

NEWPORT, RI — Newport police have asked residents to be on the lookout for phone scams, involving scammers impersonating city police officers.

Police said they've received several recent complaints from residents regarding phone calls from people claiming to be affiliated with the Newport Police Department and requesting money.

If you receive a call and have any doubt on the validity of the caller, police urged residents not to send any money, and call the Newport Police Department at 401-847-1306.
