Newport Police Selling 'All Cancer' Patch To Raise Charity Money

Officers are allowed to grow beards from October to March, as they raise money for nonprofits, and this year, there's a new patch to help.

The patches are $14 and are available on the police department's online store​.  Proceeds from this patch and 100 percent of the donations received will go to local non profit charities as well as local cancer charities.

NEWPORT, RI — No shave November is here, and Newport police officers are participating.

Officers are allowed to grow beards from October to March, as they raise money for local nonprofits, and this year Newport police launched a new patch to raise for cancer research of all kinds.

The patches are $14 and are available on the police department's online store. Proceeds from this patch and 100 percent of the donations received will go to local non profit charities as well as local cancer charities.

Police said last year, the officers themselves donated and raised more than $10,000 that went to various charities. This included The Gloria Gemma Foundation, Pink Heals Rhode Island, Newport Little League, Island Youth Lacrosse, Operation Stand Down, Home Base, No Shave November, Special Olympics RI, amongst others.
