Newport Races Dominate Competitor Magazine’s “Best of” Awards

The votes are in and Competitor magazine’s readers have chosen three events produced by Eident Sports Marketing, in partnership with Amica Mutual Insurance, as the best races in the Northeast Region in their respective categories for 2011.

held in scenic Newport, was recognized as the “Best Half Marathon” in the Northeast for 2011, according to a survey conducted by Competitor Magazine. The Amica 5k, which kicks off the Amica Marathon weekend, emerged as “Best 5k/10k” in the Northeast for 2011.

In addition, the Amica 19.7 Newport was selected as the 2011 “Best Triathlon” in the region.

“Amica is thrilled and honored to be recognized by Competitor as having the best triathlon, 5k and half Marathon in the Northeast,” said Julie Montalbano, sponsorship manager, Amica Mutual Insurance.

Nearly 5,000 runners participated in the 2011 Amica Marathon and UnitedHealthcare Half Marathon. Runners, who ranged in age from 14 to 88, came from as far away as Australia to compete in the event.

The 2012 Amica Marathon will be held October 13-14 in Newport, RI. The weekend- long event will kickoff with the region’s best 5k on Saturday, October 13 at Brenton Point.

The Amica Marathon and UnitedHealthcare Half Marathon will be held on Sunday, Oct. 14.Participants experience a historic and scenic course. The route begins at Easton’s Beach in Newport, runs past Newport Harbor, along picturesque Ocean Drive and through historic Bellevue Avenue.  The finish line is at scenic Easton’s Beach. The Amica 19.7 Newport, Competitor’s “Best Triathlon” in the Northeast, is slated for September 22, 2012. This race features half-mile swim, a 16.1-mile bike and a 3.1-mile run. The race kicks off at Third Beach, followed by the bike course that travels through scenic Middletown and Portsmouth. The race finishes with a 5k that ends at Sachuest (Second) Beach in Middletown.

The Amica 19.7 is part of the 2012 Amica Race Series, a nationwide series of endurance races held throughout the country. The Amica 19.7 Newport will be the 2012 series finale and will feature professionals competing for a $10,000 prize purse.
