Newport Restaurants Win at Great Chowder Cook-Off

NEWPORT, RI, June 11, 2015 -- Thousands of chowder lovers savored the sumptuous soups of the best chefs in New England at the 34th Annual Great Chowder Cook-Off, held this past Saturday at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island. But they also had a job to do --- to determine who was going to take home the coveted titles of “Best Clam” and “Best Seafood” chowder and thousands in prize money.

The winners are:

The 2015 Best Clam Chowder

1st Place – The Barking Crab, Newport, Rhode Island

2nd Place – McT’S Tavern, Cumberland, Rhode Island

3rd Place – Grid Iron Ale House and Grille, Warwick, Rhode Island

The 2015 Best Seafood Chowder

1st Place – The Mooring Seafood Kitchen & Bar, Newport, Rhode Island

2nd Place – Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School, Taunton, Massachusetts

3rd Place – StoneRidge, Mystic, Connecticut

Most Spirited Team Winner – McT’S Tavern, Cumberland, Rhode Island

Best Decorated Booth Winner – Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School, Taunton, Massachusetts

“Our new home at Fort Adams proved to be the perfect setting and for the first time in a long time we had a sweep of the two major awards by restaurants right here in Newport,“ said Michele Maker Palmieri, President and CEO of Waterfront Productions of which Newport Waterfront Events is a division and former General Manager of the Newport Yachting Center. “While we definitely had challenges this year due to the shorter planning timeframe forced on us by the move, we are so grateful to all the attendees who participated, as well as our competitors, sponsors and media partners.
