Newport Stabbing Victim Busted with Crack in Portsmouth

Along with crack in his backpack, police said he was carrying gauze and medical supplies to treat wounds from being stabbed in downtown Newport.

Police charged Marquis Winston Moreino, 21, of no permanent address, with felony narcotics possession after he was picked up on a warrant on May 8 at around 9:25 p.m.

Police said they were dispatched to the area of East Main Road and Union Street for a report of a man walking in the road.

That man was Moreino, who reportedly had a small knife in his pocket.

Inside the backpack he was carrying, police found gauze and saline solution that Moreino said he was using to treat wounds suffered after he was stabbed in downtown Newport, according to a police report.

They also found a prescription bottle that contained five pills and two small baggies containing crack cocaine.

Moreino is being held at the Adult Correctional Institutions. Bail was set at $5,000 with surety. He is due to appear in Second Division District Court on June 12 for an attorney general conference.
