Newport Storm Sponsors Surfers in Battle of the Brews

Surfers battled the heat and each other at the First Annual Eastern Surfing Association Summer Surfing Championships "Battle of the Brews" last Friday at Narragansett Town Beach.

The Atlantic Ocean was the only respite from the scorching heat wave this past weekend. It was also the battleground for the 1st Annual Battle of the Brews, an Eastern Surfing Association rated contest sponsored by Narragansett Beer, Newport Storm, Anarchy Eyewear and WBRU.

The competitors traded waves in two to three-foot surf, and they made the best of the conditions, glad to be cooling off in the water. Spectators were entertained by the headstands and long noserides in the longboard division, the highlight of the contest.

After the regular heats were finished, the surfers divided into four teams for the longboard team division. The teams represented Narragansett Beer, Newport Storm, Narragansett Surf and Skate, and Anarchy.
