Newport: Two Men Held On First Degree Rape Charges
Two suspects dressed in white paper suits were arraigned Monday in Newport District Court on first-degree rape charges.

NEWPORT, RI — Two suspects dressed in white paper suits were arraigned Monday in Newport District Court on first-degree rape charges. Edgar Choquin Jolon, 20, and Selvin Dejesus, 22, were separately charged with felony first-degree sexual assault, according to court records. The charges stem from an incident that happened Sunday.
The victim is a 28-year-old Newport woman. According to the arrest report, she went with one of the suspects to his residence where she was allegedly assaulted. She ran away and asked a stranger for help. Police were able to find the house based on her description and to locate two suspects, described as men with long hair and silver teeth.
No plea was entered for either suspect on Monday. Both cases were referred to the public defender. A status hearing was set for July 25.

Both are being held without bail. Dejesus also faces a probation violation in connection with a plea deal he took last April. He had pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor Disorderly Conduct charge pressed by Newport police in March. That hearing is also set for July 25.
