Newport Woman Charged for Smashing Window with Bat

Police said she was wanted ever since the July 30 incident and was arrested Wednesday after a traffic stop.

Newport police arrested a 30-year-old city woman on a warrant for a domestic incident in late July during which she smashed an apartment window with a baseball bat, police said.

Lakiya C. Zeigler, 30, of 195 Admiral Kalbfus Road, Newport, was taken into custody without incident during a traffic stop on Wednesday, according to a police report.

Zeigler was wanted on charges of domestic disorderly conduct and vandalism for the July 30 incident during which she allegedly shattered the apartment window at 186 Park Holm.

Police said Zeigler smashed the window after an argument with a man over domestic issues.

Zeigler had left the scene by the time police arrived to investigate a report of a disturbance. Police could not immediately locate her vehicle the night of the incident.

Police said Zeigler was stopped after an officer on patrol on Wednesday saw her vehicle on Van Zandt Avenue.

Zeilger was very cooperative with police at the time of her arrest, police said, and she was released on $1,000 personal recognizance until Aug. 19.
