No. 1 Seed John Isner Advances to Quarter-finals, Kudla Triumphs Over Dimitrov, Thursday Order of Play Announced

In the second round at the Campbell's Hall of Fame Tennis Championships No. 1 seed John Isner defeated veteran ATP World Tour player Arnaud Clement to advance to the quarter-finals. In a battle of Newport's past past success stories, 2010 finalist Olivier Rochus was victorious over 2007 finalist Nicolas Mahut. In the final match on Center Court, 18-year-old wild card Denis Kudla pulled the biggest upset of the day. Kudla, who is currently ranked No. 394 overcame fellow young star Grigor Dimitrov, the second youngest player in the South African Airways ATP World Tour top-100, who is ranked No. 60 at age 20. 

 

On Thursday, quarter-finals will begin with France's Edouard Roger-Vasselin facing Tobias Kamkeof Germany. Kamke was the ATP World Tour's Newcomer of the Year last year, finishing the year at No. 67. Both players have had straight set wins at Newport so far and are entering their first quarter-final of the season.

The second quarter-final match pits No. 1 seed John Isner against No. 5 seed Alex Bogomolov Jr.Isner is pushing for his first semi-final of the year, but could face a tough test against the ever-improving Bogomolov Jr. Coming into the 2011 season, Bogomolov Jr. had a 21-40 career record at ATP World Tour-level - this year he is 10-7, a mark that includes a win over Andy Murray and quarter-final showings at Zagreb and 's-Hertogenbosch. He also had a great run at Wimbledon, making it to the third round.

Play begins at 11 a.m. with a doubles match up between Belgians Ruben Bemelmans and Olivier Rochus versus Brazilians Marcelo Melo and Andre Sa going on center court first.
