No Bail For 3 Arrested In Deadly Newport Shooting

NEWPORT, RI — Three men authorities say were involved in a deadly shooting in Newport last February were arraigned in Newport Superior Court this week and ordered held without bail.
Shamik Steele, 30, Duane Logan, 47 and Xavier Perry, 28 were all charged in connection to the shooting death of Yordi Arevalo, 25. A 30-year-old man was also injured in the shooting, according to police.
The shooting happened outside The Friendly Sons of Newport on Farewell Street around 1:15 a.m. According to police, the shooting happened after an argument.

Following the investigation, arrest warrants were issued for three people. The first, for Steele, was for murder and felony assault. Another warrant was issued for Xavier Perry and Duane Logan, charging each with conspiracy to commit murder.
Perry was arrested around 9:15 a.m. the next day. Newport police detectives, with help from several other local departments and Rhode Island State Police, determined that Steele was staying at a home in West Warwick, where he was also arrested that day.

Steele remained at large, before being taken into custody two weeks later.
Steele, Logan and Perry were all scheduled to return to court next month.
