North Kingstown native Chris Toppin returns to Rhode Island with LOVE LOVE

Boston's LOVE LOVE will make its Rhode Island debut at Jimmy's Saloon on Saturday, September 3, 2016

Boston’s LOVE LOVE will make its Rhode Island debut at Jimmy’s Saloon on Saturday, September 3, 2016 along with Anthony Daniels (from New York City) and Little Musket (from Boston).

LOVE LOVE’S co-lead singer/songwriter, Chris Toppin, was born and raised in North Kingstown.

Toppin was a co-frontwoman and singer/songwriter in the 1990’s successful rock band Fuzzy, who were signed to Atlantic Records and toured extensively with The Lemonheads, Belly, and Dinosaur Jr. They are best known for their hit “Flashlight”—once a “Single of the Week” from the UK’s prestigious New Musical Express magazine.

After taking a decade off to raise her children, Toppin rejoined the music scene while volunteering and becoming inspired by Girls Rock Camp Boston. “They gave me the courage to take the risk and leave my 9-5 job and start doing music again,” she says. “The past few years, I’ve had a transformation because of them. I owe them a lot.”

Playing to sold-out audiences in Boston, LOVE LOVE has garnered critical acclaim from the Boston Herald (“They both have serious writing chops, but it’s when they tag team vocals that they shine brightest...the results are astounding”), No Depression (“This album ranks among the most auspicious debuts I’ve heard so far this year"), Twangville (“...a captivating folk storytelling style), Performer Magazine (“...intricate storytelling…something for any listener,”), and Liverpool Sound & Vision (“...narrative structure that would put many novels to shame”).

With her partner Jefferson Riordan (Evelyn Swoons, The Almightys), LOVE LOVE released their debut album in 2015. Toppin and Riordan knew each other from singing backup vocals and drumming, respectively, for others for years. She discovered that Riordan wrote and sang when he asked her to sing backup on one of his own songs. Fond of reflective love songs and murder ballads, Toppin and Riordan share songwriting credits for 13 of the 14 songs on the album.

“’Murderpedia’ was the first song that Chris and I worked on together,” said Riordan. “When I discovered that Chris enjoyed writing about murder, I said to myself, ‘this is a girl I have to be writing with!”

LOVE LOVE fully represents the band’s musical and lyrical scope, with beautiful harmonies, complex arrangements, and engaging songwriting. Their music is perfect for fans of The Head & The Heart, Neil Young, Lucinda Williams, X, and The Lumineers.

The band’s first full-length studio album can be heard for free on the band's website as well as find them on Facebook and Twitter.
