North Kingstown Teen Arrested for Shoplifting
The juvenile filled a shopping cart with personal care and beauty products and tried walking out of the Connell Highway Stop & Shop.

NEWPORT, RI—Police at 1 p.m. on Monday arrested a 16-year-old boy at the Connell Highway Stop & Shop. The juvenile, whose name is not being published because of his age, allegedly filled a shopping cart with $157.81 worth of merchandise and attempted to leave without paying.
According to police, the items included a candle, a 27-roll package of Scott T-paper, a package of Oral B toothbrush heads, Pillow Soft curly hair conditioner and other personal care and beauty products.
The store's loss prevention manager told police the teen walked past several available cashiers and headed for the north exit.

The value of the merchandise is $157.81, police said.
Police said the teen told them he is in Newport staying with his sister. Officers spoke to an adult in the family and explained they were giving the teen a No Trespass order for the Stop & Shop.

The shoplifting case will be heard in Family Court.
