Paiva Weed to Leave State Senate

Sen. M. Teresa Paiva Weed, (D-Jamestown & Newport) has accepted the post with the Hospital Association of Rhode Island.

NEWPORT, RI — Senate President M. Teresa Paiva Weed has resigned from the state senate. As Patch reported Tuesday, she was a top contender for a job as head of the Hospital Association of Rhode Island.

The association announced today it has hired her.

She is out as senate president in a couple of days.

Paiva Weed held a press conference at the Statehouse this afternoon to announce she is leaving. She will start the hospital association job on May 1.

A special election will be held to replace her as Jamestown and Newport's state senator.

Paiva-Weed, a Democrat, represents Jamestown and part of Newport. She had won 12 campaigns and served in the state Senate almost 25 years.
