The music continued as the Toyota drove by the police officer, who pulled out, stopped Brasher and issued a June 29 Municipal Court summons for a noise violation.

During the traffic stop, Brasher allegedly “did not seem concerned of the violation,” according to a police report, asking the officer “How did the music sound?”

“Was there too much bass?” he asked.

BROTHERS CHARGED AFTER FIGHT
Police charged two brothers with domestic simple assault Thursday night for an alleged fight that occurred in the Bayside Village apartment complex.

Gerardo Cruz, 41, of 98 Sherwood Drive, Portsmouth; and Edwin R. Cruz, 50, of no permanent address, each were charged with two counts of domestic simple assault and were due to be arraigned Friday morning.

Police said they were dispatched to the complex at around 11:10 p.m. for reports of a disturbance between a group of men, possibly with sticks or pipes.

Upon arrival, police learned that the fight had ended but two of the three men involved were at the scene. They told officers that they were upset with a blood relative who allegedly stole prescription drugs and a bicycle from a woman living in the apartment complex.

After an investigation, both Cruz brothers were arrested.

LOUD PARTY
Police cited a 21-year-old Newport woman for violating the city’s noise ordinance during a party at her Thames Street apartment Thursday night.

Police said Orna Murray, of 668 Thames St., had about 25 to 30 people in her apartment during the party and a noise meter used outside the building registered a reading of 58.8 decibles.

Murray reportedly was cooperative and the party was cleared out. She was issued a summons to appear in court on June 29.
