Police See Fight Start Through Police Station Window
Two men were arrested for getting into a fight on Broadway on Monday afternoon.
Newport police charged two men with disorderly conduct for allegedly fighting in front of the police station on Broadway Monday afternoon.
Police said Scott Allen Herrmann, 56, of 4 Farewell St., Newport; and George Matthew Costa, 67, of Middletown, were seen by police as they yelled at each other before grappling and fighting.
An officer reported seeing the incident happen through a window in the department’s juvenile office overlooking Broadway.

Costa reportedly drove up to the corner of Broadway and Collins Street and parked in a no-parking zone. He then got out of his pickup truck and walked o the retaining wall where Herrmann was sitting and was seen yelling a few moments later.
Both men were separated by officers who ran outside to stop the fight.

Both were taken into custody without incident.
Costa’s truck was towed from the scene.
WARRANT
Police charged Leon E. Sampson, 25, of no permanent address, with a Superior Court bench warrant for failing to appear for a restitution review hearing.
Police said they arrested Sampson after officers were dispatched to Equality Park at around 7 p.m. for ongoing noise problems caused by intoxicated people.
Police said Sampson was sitting on a bench in front of the park with another man.
Sampson was visibly drunk and stumbling around, according to a police report.
He was arrested without incident and held for arraignment Tuesday.
