Police Warn about New Electric Bill Scam
Another electric bill scam is underway, police say.

NEWPORT, RI — They're back. The fraudsters who want to trick people out of their money have a new scam demanding payment for electric bills, according to the Newport police.
The police department posted this warning on its Twitter feed.
So, don't make any payments before checking with the service provider, the police advise.

Also, people who can't pay their bills can seek help by contacting the agencies on the list. Finally, people who meet certain age criteria can seek protection from shutoff by notifying the company and working out a payment plan.
