Police: Woman Hid in Bushes to Call 911 After Domestic Assault

Police said a 55-year-old Lincoln man was charged with domestic simple assault.

Newport police charged John Pesce, 55, of 5 Laurie Ellen Drive, Lincoln, with domestic simple assault after he allegedly pushed a woman at the Ocean Cliff Hotel on Sunday night.

Police said they got a 911 call at around 7:11 p.m. from a woman who said she was hiding in the bushes at the resort after she was shoved.

The woman said that she was having dinner with the man when they began to argue about their relationship and it got to the point that she got up and left.

Pesce reportedly followed her out and the argument continued in a parking lot.

A witness told police that she saw Pesce shove the woman, who fled and called police as she hid.

Police said Pesce was taken into custody without incident and later released on $1,000 personal recognizance.

He is due to return to court on July 15 for arraignment.
