Public Invited to Pick Ballard Park Halloween Movie Night Flicks
Vote for two different movie choices — one for kids and another, later, more scary film — that will be shown Oct. 25 at Ballard Park.

Friends of Ballard Park is starting a new Halloween tradition…. People’s Credit Union’s Halloween Movie Night on Saturday, October 25th. The event will feature two movies. One for children and a second scary movie for the older crowd plus a Halloween costume parade and contest and a meet and greet with members of the Newport Fire Department.
The public is invited to vote on which movies they’d like to see. The movies that garner the most votes will be shown. Selections for the children’s movie include Casper, Hocus Pocus, Monsters, Inc. and The Nightmare Before Christmas. The survey is available at http://conta.cc/1rro8vr. There are several more options in the scary movie category. They include The Birds, Halloween, The Conjuring, Pet Semetary, The Exorcist, Scream and The Shining. People’s Credit Union’s Halloween Movie Night is a free event. The quarry meadow will open at 5 pm for a meet and greet with members of the Newport Fire Department. A costume parade for children will be held at 5:30 pm. Celebrity judges who include Senate President Teresa Paiva Weed, Mayor Harry Winthrop, Councilor Kate Leonard, Newport People’s Credit Union Newport Branch Manager Marie Everett and members of the Newport Fire Department will award prizes from The Newport Sweet Shoppe in several categories. Event sponsors include Senate President M. Teresa Paiva Weed and Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty. Co-sponsors are Newport 1080, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Smith Horticulture, Harry Winthrop for Newport, the Campaign to Re-Elect Kate Leonard and Stagecraft Sound & Lighting.

The children’s movie will start at 6 pm and the second, scary movie around 7:30 pm. Movies will be shown in the quarry meadow which is best accessed through the Hazard Road entrance (use 1 Ocean Heights Road for GPS directions, the entrance is directly across the street). In the event of rain, the movies will be shown on November 1st.
Ballard Park is located directly across from Rogers High School on Wickham Road in Newport. Those interested in attending should wear sturdy shoes as there is rugged terrain. Parking is available along Hazard Road.

Friends of Ballard Park is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting, maintaining and promoting Newport’s Only Nature Preserve. Cultural events and educational programming help to advance stewardship of the park and decrease negative park activities.
