PUMA's Trash Is Another Sailor's Treasure
The PUMA Mar Mostro team will be hosting a yard sale at the Newport Shipyard.
For the PUMA Mar Mostro team to sail out of Newport's harbor, they will have to leave some precious cargo behind. As summer revs into gear, the famed sailing team will prepare to navigate the ocean waters and take on other sailors in the 2011 Transatlantic Race from Newport to Lizard, U.K. The team will then move on to the renowned Volvo Ocean Race 2011/2012.
The PUMA Ocean Racing Team yard sale will be held at Newport Shipyard on Saturday, June 25. The yard sale will begin at 8 a.m. and everything that can't and won't make it on the boats must go.
“All great adventures have brief moments of regret and for me the biggest moment of regret will be sailing out of Newport on July 3rd and knowing we are leaving one of the most beautiful places in the world,” said Newport local and skipper of PUMA mar mostro Ken Read.

The team, which has been located in Newport since 2008, will be selling everything from power tools and office equipment to household items and their sought-after sailing gear.
“Since we have essentially set up shop here for the past three years we have a lot of stuff that can’t come with us, which is why we are having the yard sale of the century,” said Read.
