Remembering The Seven RI September 11 Victims

There will be a September 11 memorial Tuesday at 11:45 a.m. at Naval War College in Newport to remember all the victims.

On this day 17 years ago, the United States was forever changed. Nearly 3,000 Americans were killed in the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center, Pentagon.

An attack on the Capitol Building was attempted as well, but passengers on Flight 93 bravely took action against the terrorist leading to the plane crashing in a field in Somerset County, PA. It was the deadliest attack ever on U.S. soil.

Today, we remember those victims and the first responders that risked their lives to save others. There were seven September 11 victims from Rhode Island Some also have ties to Massachusetts. There will be a September 11 memorial Tuesday at 11:45 a.m. at Naval War College in Newport to remember all the victims.

Here are the victims with ties to Rhode Island:

  • Shawn M. Nassaney, 25, of Pawtucket was a sales manager at American Power Conversion. He graduated from Bryant College in 1998 cum laude with a marketing degree. Massey also ran cross country at Bryant.
  • Amy Jarret, 28, of North Smithfield was a flight attendant for United Airlines Flight 175. She went to school at Villanova University.
  • David Angell, 55, of West Barrington was a successful television executive. He was an executive producer on NBC's Emmy-winning series Frasier. He also worked on the shows Cheers and Wings. Angell graduated Providence College.
  • Lynn Goodchild, 25, of Attleboro graduated Bryant College in 1998. She was a plan administrator for Putnam Investments. Goodfield and her boyfriend, were on their way to Hawaii.
  • Carol Bouchard, 43, of Warwick, was an emergency room secretary at Kent County Memorial Hospital. She was on American Airlines Flight 11 on her way to a vacation in Las Vegas.
  • James E. Hayden, 47, of Westford, Massachusetts, originally a native of Pawtucket, Rhode Island was an executive at Netegrity Inc. in Waltham, Mass. Hayden graduated from Stonehill College in North Easton, Massachusetts.
  • Rev. Francis Edward Grogan, 76, was a pastor at St. Stanislaus Church, in Fall River, Massachusetts. He was a World War II veteran. Grogan was flying on United Flight 175 to visit his sister.
