Report: RI's Best Teachers Work at Rogers High School

A recent survey by Niche.com shows the Rogers High School community loves their teachers with a few exceptions.

Rogers High School in Newport has some of the best teachers in the state, according to a recent report of teacher rankings across Rhode Island.

Niche.com recently released its 2015 list of high schools with the best teachers throughout the nation, as well as the state of Rhode Island, and many schools you’ll recognize received high ranks, including Rogers.

Students at the city’s high school scored above average on standardized tests as compared to the rest of the state. And reviews from parents and students are mostly positive.

“The teachers, for the most part, are very knowledgeable in their fields and genuinely care about their student,” said one of the more than 100 students and parents who provided feedback for the report.

Many mentioned the strong athletic program at Rogers.

“Sports are very important at Rogers and have a very rich history,” said a sophomore. “The teams are usually very successful in their divisions, respectfully. Most teams receive an immense amount of support from the staff and student body. The coaches are awesome and really know how to develop good, lasting relationships with all of their players. though most coaches are tough, it pays off in the end.”

Rogers is a diverse school and many comments noted that fact as a positive.

Negative comments mentioned the food, with a senior saying that “pizza is like cardboard. . . meat isn’t even meat,” and others said there have been fights and other conflicts between students, the heating system “THE SCHOOL IS FREEZING IN WINTER.”
